Over at Merchant Payments Ecosystem 2023 in Berlin, we stopped by for a joint interview with Quintin Stephen, Director of Global Strategy at Giesecke+Devrient and Nakjo Shishkov, Principal Consultant at Netcetera.

Quintin: “The evolution of biometrics I think is in a very early stage for authentication of transactions and we are still in the world of passwords and one-time passwords, which literally are pieces of technology that come from the 60s”

Nakjo: “Secure payment confirmation is the latest addition in the W3C specification and it enhances the predecessor called WebAuthn. So, this allows the usage of FIDO credentials specifically in the payment context. Previously, one could use FIDO credentials to log in to a web page. Now, this is enhanced to allow for this usage for payments.”
