PayTech Can Drive Accessibility and Sustainability | G+D | Money20/20 Europe

PayTech can drive accessibility and sustainability.

In another great interview from Money20/20 Europe 2024, Gabrielle Bugat from G+D, talks to us about addressing fraud in banking and some initiatives they’re working on, aimed at promoting sustainability.

There’s plenty in here about the work they do with their digital powerhouse Netcetera and a collaboration with Santander Bank as well as some thoughts on creating accessible, secure banking systems.

Be sure to check out our other videos from Money20/20 in partnership with G+D on a variety of topics from accessibility to security.

Unleashing the power of PayTech

In this interview Bugat, who is CEO of G+D ePayments, discusses their pivotal role in the PayTech sector and why they’re at Money2020. It’s fair to say the SecurityTech giant stands out as a leader in orchestrating secure, human-centric payment and banking experiences in the digital age so it’s great to hear their perspective on a range of important issues.

We hear about their strategy for Money2020, including a plan to “unleash the power of PayTech” by showcasing their advancements in integrating digital and real-world payment experiences, addressing the growing issue of fraud, and enhancing the overall security and convenience of e-commerce. Bugat emphasized that payment systems today are about more than just transactions; they involve creating a comprehensive experience that includes sustainability. One example of this is using eco-plastic for cards, and ensuring inclusive payments that cater to all users, including those with disabilities.

The right balance in payments

Bugat highlighted the future of payments and banking as a delicate balance between convenience and security. The challenge lies in achieving the right level of friction in payment processes to ensure security without compromising the user experience. This balance allows consumers to focus on their purchases rather than the mechanics of payment, providing peace of mind that their transactions are safe from fraud while maintaining smooth and efficient payment experiences.

G+D’s collaboration with Netcetera, their in-house digital powerhouse, exemplifies their strategy to leverage technological expertise in authentication and digital banking. With a strong team of 800 tech-savvy software engineers, Netcetera complements G+D’s historical expertise in card technology. This partnership enables G+D to offer comprehensive security solutions across the entire payment journey, from mobile applications to transaction authentication, ensuring that every payment is secure and convenient. The integration of advanced authentication methods like 3DS and FIDO further enhances the security of payment transactions.

Sustainability and accessibility

We also wanted to hear her thoughts on the important topics in any industry, but particularly in something as far reaching as finance, accessibility and sustainability. In terms of sustainability, Bugat discussed G+D’s collaboration with Santander Bank on a payment card recycling program in Spain. This initiative involves collecting expired cards, recycling them, and creating tangible objects from the recycled material. A notable example is a bench made from recycled cards, displayed in Santander’s signature red at Money2020. This program not only promotes recycling but also raises awareness about sustainability in the payment industry, encouraging consumers to return their old cards for recycling.

G+D’s commitment to accessibility in banking and payments is also evident through their first-ever co-creation workshop focused on this issue. This milestone event brought together associations, engineers, and issuer banks to explore how G+D’s products and solutions can be designed with inclusion in mind. The workshop led to practical adjustments in both digital and physical products, reflecting a continuous journey towards greater accessibility. Bugat emphasized the importance of listening to stakeholders and incorporating their feedback to make a meaningful impact on society, highlighting that true accessibility requires ongoing collaboration and innovation.

In summary, Gabrielle Bugat’s insights provide a comprehensive overview of G+D’s strategies and initiatives in the PayTech domain. We hope you enjoyed and stay tuned for more from the conference.
